Lionel Messi after the Instagram post that rocked Barcelona?

The Catalan club was stunned by Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals on Thursday, being eliminated by Iñaki Williams' stoppage time winner at the San Mamés.
The defeat follows Lionel Messi's public war of words with sporting director and former teammate Eric Abidal, which forced club president Josep Bartomeu to request an emergency meeting with the pair on Wednesday evening.
Messi was incensed by Abidal's accusation that players had downed tools to get former manager Ernesto Valverde sacked. His response? To name the players or be quiet.
According the reports in Spain, the Argentine has a clause in his contract -- which runs out in 2021 -- that allows him to leave Barcelona for free this summer, as long as he informs the club by May.
So rarely does the 32-year-old air his grievances in public; it felt as though Abidal's comments were the straw that broke the camel's back.
Barcelona's full-back Jordi Alba came out in defense of his captain following the shock defeat to Bilbao.
"Abidal was a player, he's not an outsider, he has to know how a player feels in the locker room," the Spaniard told newspaper Sport. "Those of us who are facing the music are the players and coaching staff.
"We already get enough s**t thrown at us from the outside, so we shouldn't be throwing s**t at ourselves. We should all be helping each other."
For years, Messi, regarded by many as the greatest of all time, has been the glue that has held a crumbling Barcelona together -- both on the pitch and in the boardroom.
Lionel Messi and Eric Abidal were teammates at Barcelona.
His consistent, match-winning moments of genius have papered over cracks that have been steadily deepening for several seasons.
On the pitch, around a billion dollars has been spent since Neymar's shock departure to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 and several big-money, high-profile signings have failed to make a mark.
Antoine Griezmann is the latest in a growing list that includes the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele and Malcom to have underperformed after joining with much fanfare.
The president and the board have also been widely criticized for years.
A scattergun approach to planning and recruitment has seen them fail to progress following the retirement of the club's previous generation of stars, notably the 2011 all-conquering homegrown vintage of Xavi and Iniesta.
Indeed, it has now been five years since Barcelona won the Champions League, an almost unthinkable barren stretch for a team boasting one of the greatest players the game has ever seen.
The last time Barcelona won the Champions League was way back in 2015.

    Messi 'exploded'

However, after Wednesday's meeting, it seems both Abidal and Messi will remain at the club -- for now at least.
Spanish newspaper Sport, the publication to which Abidal made the initial inflammatory quotes, say that "Abidal's dismissal was never on the table" and following a two-hour meeting, Bartomeu had "settled the crisis" at the club.
After speaking with Messi over the phone, Bartomeu believes the situation is "absolutely reconcilable," Sport say.
Marca is less optimistic about the outcome, saying Messi "exploded" on Tuesday following Abidal's "fatal" comments and that he is being "burdened with reasons to slam the door" on Barcelona.
Any talk about Messi's hypothetical exit from Barcelona usually involves him moving to Manchester City, the club which infamously tried to sign him in 2008 following the arrival of its new super rich owners.
The reasoning is down to City being the only club that could realistically afford his wages -- reported by Football Leaks to be as much as $155 million over five years, bonuses included -- but City's acquisition of Pep Guardiola as manager adds another layer of intrigue.
It's no secret there is mutual admiration between the two, with Guardiola helping mold Messi into the player he's become today during his early years in the Barcelona first team.
Guardiola, likewise, has regularly admitted how lucky he was to coach a team containing Messi and says not having him at any of his subsequent clubs is the reason he has failed to win a Champions League title outside of Barcelona.
Lionel Messi and Pep Guardiola share a mutual admiration.
For now, though, new coach Quique Setien will have to face the rest of the season with a weaker squad than when he joined.
The departures of several young fringe stars in January was supposed to free up space for a new attacking player, but that signing never materialized.
And the news that forward Dembele will now be out for the rest of the season -- joining Luis Suarez on the long-term absentee list -- leaves Barcelona's squad stretched thin.
Once again, the weight of expectation will be all Messi's to shoulder.

Clark condemns exclusion Of Niger Delta in Abacha’s loot spending

The leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum and elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, has criticised the exclusion of Niger Delta region from the infrastructural projects to be built with the $308 million loot of a former military leader, General Sanni Abacha.
He, therefore, called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to include the region as one of the beneficiaries of the loot, arguing that the money stolen by Abacha were funds derived from oil exploration in the Niger Delta region.
He stated this in a protest statement issued from London on Thursday, saying that, “the continued neglect of the region by the Buhari’s administration is appalling.
The statement read in part, “I congratulate Buhari on the recovery of another Abacha loot to the tune of $308 million. I, however, observe that again, the Niger Delta region is left out in the infrastructural development in the country both in the 2020 budget of the federal government and in the distribution of the recovered Abacha loot for infrastructural development.
“I notice that the only road projects to benefit from the recent Abacha loot are the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Western Region), the Abuja–Kano Road (Northern Region) and the 2nd Niger Bridge (Eastern Region) and which is merely meant for the eastern part of the country, even though it starts from Asaba in Delta State.
“This, indeed, is a demonstration of the Federal Government’s repeated and deliberate neglect of the Niger Delta region, even though the Abacha loot came substantially from the Region.
“It must be admitted that the revenue that accrued to the Federal Government, which was deposited in the Central Bank of Nigeria, from where Abacha looted them is the product of oil and gas revenue derived from the oil and gas fields/industries in the Niger Delta region.
“But the Federal Government, has again, deliberately abandoned the East-West Road which is the most important economic road in Nigeria, which was started over 10 years ago, even when the collapsed part of the road has been left to the State Governments of the Region to repair, particularly the recent total collapse of the part from Benin in Edo State to Warri in Delta State.
“The continued ‘deliberate’ neglect and injustice against the people of the Niger Delta should stop, the Federal Government should include the completion of the East-West Road as one of the projects to be embarked upon with the Abacha loot.
“The question one asks oneself is, is the Niger Delta not part of Nigeria? It is indeed most offensive and insulting to the people of the region when in response to our complaints and agitations, some armchair politicians who were never voted for, by the people of Nigeria, would shamelessly reply that the establishment of the Niger Delta Development Commission and the Presidential Amnesty Programme were generously given to us, and yet we complain.
“This marginalisation, oppression, injustice and neglect of the Niger Delta Region, will not be allowed to continue forever, the people of the region demand that the Federal Government should include the completion of the East-West Road as one of the major infrastructural projects to be developed using the Abacha loot.
“Finally, I once again, congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari on the most recent recovery of the Abacha loot, and to also add that most Nigerians were not satisfied with similar Abacha loot recovered from Geneva as to how it was expended. It is, therefore, very gratifying that this particular loot is being tied to road infrastructural development in the country. The Niger Delta region should not be left out please.”

US House of Representatives takes first action against Trump after impeachment failure

The US House of Representatives has passed a resolution seeking to end America’s support for the Saudi-United Arab Emirate war in Yemen.
This was passed by 241-177 vote at the House and will now go to the Senate where lawmakers of both the Democratic and Republican will decide its final fate.
This is the first major action against President Donald Trump’s administration by the House after the Senate acquitted him of the impeachment trial on Wednesday.
A similar bill that was passed in December 2019 by the Senate died when Congress adjourned for the year.
Democratic lawmaker, Jim McGovern, while talking about Trump’s participation in the war said on the floor of the House, “Nearly all of the bombs that have fallen say the same thing, `Made in the United States of America.’
“They fall on weddings. They fall on hospitals and on homes. They fall on funerals, refugee camps, and school buses.
“It is an aerial bombing campaign that hammers civilians every single day.”
Two amendments were added to the resolution before the final vote by the House.
The first bill gives way for continued intelligence-sharing with Saudi Arabia, while the second condemns anti-Semitism and declares that it’s the policy of the US to oppose trade boycotts against allies such as Israel.
The bill invokes the 1973 War Powers Act, which gave Congress the ability to end US involvement in a conflict if there was no formal declaration of war,” Al Jazeera reports.
Lawmakers of America’s upper legislative chamber had on Wednesday absolved President Trump of any wrongdoing.
The lawmakers voted was 52-48 in favour of the Republican on the allegation of abuse of power against Trump.

He was on Tuesday taken to court and arraigned before Justice Okikiolu-Ighile of an Igbosere High Court, according to a report by The Nation.
The prosecution counsel, Chukwu Agwu, alleged that the singer committed the offence sometime in September 2018.

Al-Mustapha - ‘I was forced to implicate Buhari, stories of Abacha loot are lies’

Hamza Al-Mustapha, a former National Security Adviser to late ex-Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, has revealed that he was forced to implicate President Muhammadu Buhari in a case of public funds looting.
Al-Mustapha disclosed that he was forced to implicate the Petroleum Trust Fund, PTF, under the leadership of Buhari of looting.
Featuring on Voice of Nigeria, VOA, on Thursday, Al-Mustapha insisted that stories of Abacha looting public funds were lies, stressing that those who took over when the former Head of State died were thieves.
He stated that when late Abacha assumed leadership in Nigeria, there was about $200 billion in Nigeria’s foreign reserve.

He said: “But before Abacha died, our foreign reserve rose to over $900 billion.
“I was forced to implicate the leadership of the defunct PTF under President Buhari then, during the military era.

The US military has killed al-Qaeda leader Qassim al-Rimi, the jihadist leader who claimed responsibility for the deadly shooting at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida where three American sailors were killed by a Saudi Aviation trainee.
According to the US president, Donald Trump, he ordered the killing of al-Rimi during a counter-terrorism operation in Yemen, and even though he didn’t elaborate on when the killing was carried out, he said that the U.S and its allies are safer as a result of al-Rimi’s death.
A $10 million reward for any information leading to al-Rimi’s capture was offered last month by the State Department after al-Rimi’s al-Qaeda accepted responsibility for the naval base attack.
Al-Rimi had said in an 18-minute video posted on Twitter that his group was responsible for the December 6 shooting at the base.

El-Rufai revokes the C-of-O for Sani Abacha’s property over 19-year debt

El-Rufai revokes the C-of-O for Sani Abacha’s property over 19-year debt

The Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) of the demolished Durbar Hotel which belongs to late General Sani Abacha’s family has been revoked by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state, according to The Guardian.

Legit.ng gathered that El-Rufai in a letter dated December 31, 2019, and addressed to Mohammed Abacha said the property’s C-of-O was revoked because of a grand rent for over 19 years that has been owed.

Nonetheless, Mohammed explained he received the letter, which was dispatched on January 24, 2020, by the Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS) on January 24, 2020, after the hotel had been demolished.

The letter which was jointly signed by the Kaduna state governor and the Deed Registrar, Yusuf Muawiyah of (KADGIS) on January 3, 2020, accused the late General’s family of violating the terms of the grant.

It would be recalled that El-Rufai and Kaduna state agencies were restrained from demolishing and taking over the property by a Kaduna High Court presided over by Justice Hannatu Balogun on January 21, 2020.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Nigerian government signed an agreement with the United States and the Island of Jersey to repatriate millions of dollars looted. Abubakar Malami, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and minister of justice said the agreement would make the country repatriate $321 million looted assets.

The funds to be repatriated are those looted by the former military head of state, Sani Abacha, former Delta governor, James Ibori, ex-minister of petroleum resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, and so on.

Similarly, the federal government of Nigeria revealed how the looted funds would be spent. The personal assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media, Bashir Ahmad, in a tweet on his Twitter page said that laundered funds under the agreement would help finance the construction of the Second Niger Bridge, the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and the Abuja-Kano Expressway.

Bashir said the proposed investments would benefit the citizens of the regions where the roads constructions would be done.
