Govt orders NYSC to open camps November 10

 


The Federal Government has directed that orientation camps of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) be open as from November 10.

The management of the NYSC asked prospective corps members to adhere strictly to COVID-19 protocols as the camps reopen.

Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, announcement this in a tweet on Thursday.

The minister tweeted: “The resumption of the NYSC orientation camps for prospective youth corps members has been approved and opens on November 10, 2020. Full COVID-19 protocols will be enforced.”

The NYSC management, in a two-paragraph statement, said the programme will run in the 36 orientation camps, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Also, three Batch “C” members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) died in Ondo State in the course of their service year.

Another one died in Osun State in the service year.

The scheme’s Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Akpabi, announced this on Thursday in Akure, the state capital, in her message at the passing out of 1,727 corps members.

Mrs. Akpabi, who urged the corps members to choose the path of truth and honour, said four other corps members had their service extended for various offences.

She said five others would repeat the service year for absconding from their primary assignment.

The Ondo NYSC Coordinator, who spoke at a key celebration for observance of COVID-19 protocols, said the corps members had done the country proud.

Also, two members of the NYSC 2019 Batch “C”, Stream 2 in Ebonyi State are to repeat their service year for absconding from service.

Seven others will have their service year extended for various offences.

NYSC State Coordinator Mrs. Mercy Bamai said this during the passing-out ceremony of the batch.

“A total of seven corps members – five males and two females – also received extension of their service year for committing various offences contravening the NYSC bye laws,” she said.

The state coordinator said the batch had 1,253 corps members, comprising 628 males and 625 females.

She added that the corps members conducted themselves properly during the service year.

A representative of the NYSC Southeast zonal office, Mrs. Ben Ushie, thanked God for the successful completion of the service year.
