Neymar stretchered off in tears with Real Madrid clash looming

Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League hopes may have been handed a major blow as Neymar was stretchered off in tears after suffering an ankle injury in a Ligue 1 clash.

The Brazilian attacker tangled with Marseille midfielder Bouna Sarr in the 76th minute and landed awkwardly on his ankle. Clearly in agony, the 26-year-old held his head in his hands before being carried off the pitch.

The world’s most expensive player, who joined PSG from Barcelona in a £200million deal last summer, now faces a serious race against time to be ready for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Real Madrid.

PSG found themselves trailing 3-1 after the first leg in the Spanish capital against the defending champions, with the second leg taking place in nine days at the Parc des Princes.

But it appears that Unai Emery’s side may well be without their talisman, who has scored 28 goals in 29 matches this season, for the March 6 tie.

Though PSG eased to a 3-0 win with goals from Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani, with Neymar also forcing an own goal from Rolando, their hopes of making a splash on the European stage may well have been dealt a crushing blow.
