England’s Football Association is in negotiations to sell Wembley Stadium, the home of its national football team, to US billionaire Shahid Khan, owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars American football team, in a deal worth up to £1bn (€1.1bn).
It is understood the approach includes £500m for the stadium and £350m for the Football Association (FA) to keep the Club Wembley unsecured loans and hospitality business.
The FA confirm they have received a bid to buy Wembley. If the money goes towards grass roots football, most importantly on pitches, artificial and otherwise, for youngsters to play then it could be a positive move.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) April 26, 2018
Under the plan, the FA would keep Wembley as the main venue for major matches, including England internationals and the FA Cup Final, but the national football team could play elsewhere in October and November due to clashes with the US National Football League season, British newspaper The Sun said.
A spokesman for the FA said: “We can confirm that the FA has received an offer to buy Wembley Stadium.”
