Sultan, other traditional rulers visit Buhari, ask Atiku, others to accept poll results as God’s will

Sokoto Sultan, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and others who lost elections to accept their fate as the will of God.
Atiku had lost the February 23 presidential election to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.
President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, former minority leader of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, were among those who lost the National Assembly election also conducted on the same date.
Atiku and some of the other losers are preparing to challenge their defeat in court.
But the Sultan, speaking when he led the National Council of Traditional Rulers to a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday, advised them to “accept the election result as the will of God.”
The Sultan, who informed Buhari that they came to congratulate him on his re-election for another term, assured him that the traditional rulers are in support of his policies and would help to disseminate information on them to the people.
Buhari speaking at the meeting told his visitors, “This is my second and final term, at the end of which I will, God willing, go to Daura and settle down.”
He pleaded with the traditional rulers to support his administration’s  anti-corruption war with their vast knowledge and links to families in their various communities.
He said, “You know all the families who harbour criminals and you know those who produce respectable individuals,” he said.
“You know the weaknesses of our society. We need your support to consolidate our achievements.
“What we need now is your support. No government can serve creditably without your support. We will always count on your support.”
The president also used the opportunity to tell them efforts the Federal Government is making to address national security challenges and stabilise the polity.
