Osun and Kaduna State governments have turned back passenger buses from entering their states.
In Osun State, the government turned back two buses conveying passengers from the North to the state.
This happened about 24 hours after the state raised the alarm about an influx of Zamfara youths into the state, despite the lockdown order.
The Nation reports that the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor of Osun State, Prince Abdullahi Binuyo, accused the youths from Zamfara State of sneaking into the state.
He said the state’s Amotekun Corps had been notified to arrest and deport the lockdown violators.
It was gathered that two buses conveying northerners wanted to enter into the state through Ilesha/Akure expressway around 3:15 p.m on Thursday but was sent back by the Local Government COVID-19 Task Force with the help of security agents at the boundary.
The chairman of Ilesha North Local Government Area, Mr. Oladipupo Adeniyi, confirmed the incident.
“We did not allow the two buses conveying northern passengers
to enter our state. We sent them back to where they were coming from.
“We will not allow any passenger to enter the state at all for now. The security personnel manning our boundaries are doing very fine now,” he added.
The Kaduna State government turned back two vehicles attempting to convey passengers from the state’s boundary with Kano into the state.
This happened barely 24 hours after 16 almajiri who returned from Kano tested positive with COVID-19 in Kaduna.
The development followed the interception of several lorries by security operatives at the Kaduna-Kano boundary on Monday.
In the latest development, the lorries slipped through the security checks at the boundary, conveying their human cargo concealed behind livestock, motorcycles and other goods.
Confirming the development yesterday, Kaduna State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said: “We got information that these lorries had come in from the Kaduna-Kano boundary and had progressed up to Gwargwaji in Zaria Local Government Area. We then proceeded to nab them within the same local government.
“The passengers were cleverly concealed behind random goods, motorcycles and animals. Thankfully, once again, we have got the better of them, and we have turned them back, in compliance with the Kaduna State government’s ban on inter-state travel.
“Operatives are actively enforcing the directives at all entry points, and passengers have similarly been intercepted from other routes and escorted out to the borders,” he said.
Aruwan reiterated that the ban on interstate travel is among measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The commissioner said security agencies at the state’s boundaries had been enforcing the ban.
