1. Commercial activities were paralyzed in south eastern part of Nigeria on Wednesday by supporters of the defunct Biafra Republic as they marked the 30th anniversary of the short-lived country.

The sit-at-home order, which witnessed a total compliance in Igbo land, however, took a dramatic dimension when the self-acclaimed President of the group, Barr. Benjamin Onwuka and over 15 others were arrested after they attempted to declare Biafra at the Enugu Government House.


2. Kayode Fayemi, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Wednesday announced his resignation from President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.

Fayami made the announcement yesterday at a valedictory briefing in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory in order to pursue his governorship ambition in Ekiti State.


3. A Federal Capital Territory High Court on Wednesday sentenced a former Taraba State Governor, Jolly Nyame, to 14 years in prison without an option of fine for misappropriating state funds.


Nyame was found guilty of 27 out of 41 counts of alleged diversion of public funds while he served as governor of Taraba State between 1999 to 2007.

4. Justice Chiwendu Nworgu of the High Court in Port Harcourt has set aside the Ward, Local government and State Congresses that led to the emergence of Ojukaye Flag Amachree as Chairman of APC in Rivers state.

Justice Nworgu in an elaborate ruling said the All Progressive Congress should return to status quo of May 11th, 2018

5. Steven Ukpukpen, the lawmaker representing Obudu Constituency in Cross River State House of Assembly is dead

Ukpukpen slumped and died during an early morning workout on Wednesday around 7 am along Moore Road in Calabar.

6. The Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, on Wednesday agreed to suspend its six weeks old strike on Friday June 1, 2018.

According to the union, its consideration of the plight of health-seeking members of the public also informed its decision to suspend its action.

7. Senator Dino Melaye on Wednesday made a dramatic appearance at the Senate, declaring his intention to cross-carpet to the other wing of the chamber.

The lawmaker, who appeared in clutches and neck support, said he was no longer comfortable sitting on his seat at the wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he would cross over to the wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

8. The Nigeria Police Force has arrested the Personal Assistant to the Governor of Kwara State on Political Matters (Kwara South) Mr. Alabi Olalekan.

Olalekan was arrested Tuesday night from his residence in Ilorin by security operatives, who whisked him away to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

9. The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Interior, Adams Jagaba, has decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Jagaba, who is from Kaduna State, on Wednesday announced his defection to the PDP on the floor of the House in Abuja.

10. Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has cut down his provisional squad for this summer’s World Cup from 30 to 25 players.
