10 things you need to know this Wednesday in Nigerian Newspapers



    Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and other prominent Nigerians on Wednesday broke down in tears in Benue during the mass burial of 19 persons killed by herdsmen last months. Osinabjo, who spoke briefly during the ceremony, promised that the federal government was doing everything to end the incessant killings in the state.

2. Ondo State House of Assembly, Deputy Speaker, lroju Ogundeji was yesterday impeached and replaced with Hon Bimbo Fajolu of Ile-oluji/Oke-igbo constituency, The motion for his impeachment was moved by Hon Fatai olootu from Akoko Northeast constituency and supported by Hon Malachi Coker Adeniyi Emmanuel of Ilaje constituency ii.



3. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday wondered what former president Olusegun Obasanjo achieved after spending huge amount on power. He spoke with reference to the failed $16 billion power project under the Obasanjo administration, giving a hint that he might probe the ex-leader.

4. Barely 24 hours after he announced his withdrawal as a defence lawyer to Mr. Olisa Metuh, a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Emeka Etiaba SAN, on Tuesday re-appeared in the case. This follows the continuation of the trial of the former PDP spokesman at the Federal High Court in Abuja in his absence about a day after he slumped in court during the Monday’s proceedings.

5. The Christian Association of Nigeria CAN has advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek a second term in office. CAN said this on Tuesday while commiserating with the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria CSN as it conducts mass burial for the two priests and parishioners killed by the Fulani herdsmen in Benue State recently.

6. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that he is ready for probe over the $16b Power Project. Obasanjo said a statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari, apparently without correct information and based on ignorance, suggested that $16 billion was wasted on power projects by “a former President”.

7. The Primate of Anglican Church in Nigeria, Rev. Nicholas Okoh, has said that killing of Christians by armed herdsmen will not abate unless they were first disarmed and exposed. He said this in his solidarity speech during the Life is Sacred protests by Catholics in Abuja on Tuesday.

8. Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, on Tuesday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfil his campaign promises of ending the killing of defenceless citizens across the country. He also charged him to keep his vows to treat all Nigerians equally not minding their respective tribes, religion and political views.

9. The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III says God is angry with Nigerians following bloodshed in the country. Abubakar, who is the President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, therefore, called on Nigerians to blow whistle on family relations, politicians if found guilty of the killings.

10. The Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign States of Biafra, MASSOB, has raised alarm over the alleged arrest of over 50 of its members in Aba, Abia State. They were arrested at Osisioma Ngwa junction, along the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway, by Police patrol teams numbering over 15, who fired tear gas canister at them.
