A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, on Friday, expressed dismay at the maltreatment of Nigerians in China.
Fani-Kayode, who was reacting to a video showing Chinese officials allegedly chasing Nigerians from their hotel and subjecting them to compulsory and involuntary quarantine, said on his Twitter handle —@realFFK—the late dictator, Sani Abacha, would never have tolerated such bad treatment of Nigerians in any part of the world.
According to him, many Chinese nationals in Nigeria would have been deported because of the incident if the Kano-born army officer was the country’s leader.
The ex-minister charged the federal government to arrest some Chinese nationals in the country, seize the passports and quarantine them indefinitely.
He said: ”Foreign policy and diplomacy is based on reciprocity and mutual respect. Based on the way in which the Chinese Government is treating our people, I call on the FGN to arrest the same number of Chinese citizens that are here, seize their passports and quarantine them indefinitely!
“Say what you like about Gen. Sani Abacha but one thing I know is that he would not have taken this nonsense from the Chinese. If he had been in power today many of them would have been deported by now and no Chinese doctors would have been allowed in!.”
