Delta State Government to Set up Ground Rent Taskforce

The Delta State Committee on Ground Rent recently held a closed door consultation meeting with the Board of Internal Revenue, DBIR, at the Revenue House, Asaba.

The Secretary to the Committee, Dr. Frank Nwugo Esq, who briefed the press in an interview after the closed door consultation meeting said that it was to conclude on the setting up of a taskforce for enforcement and full compliance in the recovery of ground rent liabilities due to the Delta State Government.

He, therefore, stressed the readiness of the Delta State Government to take all necessary measures, including but not limited to revocation of all interest on lands in which the lease holders were in default of ground rent payment and recover all outstanding liabilities from them.

Dr. Nwugo, however enjoined all ground rent defaulters to comply, in accordance with relevant laws to clear their outstanding liabilities as published, to avoid the inevitable consequences, saying that “A stitch in time saves nine.”
