Buhari’s full speech at signing of the Not Too Young To Run bill


   President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the Not Too Young To Run bill. Speaking during the signing of the Bill at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Buhari said youths, “Have now established a formidable legacy” that they can achieve anything they are determined to do.

The bill which was passed by the National Assembly last year, seeks to reduce the age qualification for elective office seekers across the country.

US hails Ayade’s industrialisation drive


    The United States Consul General to Nigeria, Mr. John Bray says he is impressed with the industrialisation drive of the Cross River Governor, Prof.  Ben Ayade within his three years in office.

Bray stated this in Calabar on Wednesday shortly after being conducted round several industries built by the Ayade-led administration in the state.
Industries visited included the Cross River Garment Factory, the Rice Seeds and Seedlings Factory, the Calabar Pharmaceutical Company and the 21 megawatts power plant.

   American gospel singer, Kirk Franklin has called out a popular gospel preacher, Jesse Duplantis for saying that God has instructed him to acquire a more sophisticated private jet.

The 64-year-old Duplantis, who own 3 private jets already, has asked his disciples to pray so that he can buy a $54million Dassult falcon 7X, which is a 3 engine plane with a range of 5,950 nautical miles so that he can go anywhere in the world as instructed by God .

PDP warns Buhari’s ‘blood relatives’ working in INEC



   The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday warned President Muhammadu Buhari’s “blood relatives” working in the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC against doing anything that will “pitch them against” Nigerians during the 2019 general elections.
PDP gave this warning while declaring that Nigerians want a change of President in 2019.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP insisted that Nigerians have noted and accepted Buhari’s declaration that “Nigerians should vote for candidates of their choice, come 2019”.

Breaking: Zidane resigns as Real Madrid manager



   Zinedine Zidane has resigned as Real Madrid manager. The Frenchman confirmed his exit in a press conference.

    Senator Dino Melaye  lawmaker representing Kogi West, took exceptions to the uncomplimentary remarks credited to President Muhammadu Buhari against the National Assembly and demanded for an apology.

It would be recalled that Buhari last week when the leadership of one of his campaign organisations led by the comptroller-General of customs, Hameed Ali, was in Aso Villa for a solidarity visit queried the importance of the National Assembly, saying many lawmakers had even spent more than 10 years without achieving anything.

   The Coalition for Good Governance, CGG, has accused the House of Representatives under the leadership of Speaker Yakubu Dogara of embarking on a “vindictive mission” against President Muhammadu Buhari.

CGG’s Executive Director, Mrs. Jaiyeole Mohammed, made the claim while stressing that the House of Representatives was embarking on its sinister agenda by “nailing” Buhari’s appointees.

Sierra Leone begs Nigeria for school teachers



     Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Allie Kabba, has requested Nigeria’s assistance in energy, education and health sectors.

Mr Kabba, who made the call in Abuja when he visited his Nigerian counterpart, Geoffrey Onyeama, also requested Nigeria’s help for his country’s energy sector.

    The Chairman, Punch Nigeria Limited, Gbadebowale Wayne Aboderin, is dead. Adoderin died on Wednesday around 6.05am after a heart surgery at the age of 60.

      Still in my astonished state, I invited them into my room. Though it was a small room, it still managed to accommodate my unexpected visitors. Some sat on my mattress, someone sat on the chair, while the rest managed to lean on my reading table. I stood in the middle of the room, my tiredness forgotten, eager to know their mission.

 One of the corp members introduced the lady with a child as Helen and the little girl, Brenda. I greeted them, my mind still unsettled about the purpose of their visit. 

The fact that Helen resembled Faith so much troubled me the more... One of them began to explain the purpose of their visit, "Helen here came to our PPA this afternoon, she came looking for Faith.

Airport authorities pick-up 95 percent of travelers with high fever in Abuja over suspected Ebola cases



    The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria  FAAN yesterday announced that it had detected and picked up over 95 per cent of travellers who had high fever as they travelled through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

FAAN said this was in its bid to avoid the re-emergence of the dreaded Ebola virus in the country. It also stated that in conjunction with other agencies of government at the airport, it had established a public health emergency contingency plan at the NAIA and other key international airports in the country in order to effectively guard against the disease.

Aregbesola, Soyinka, others suggest ways to Nigeria’s greatness

The sit-at-home order, which witnessed a total compliance in Igbo land, however, took a dramatic dimension when the self-acclaimed President of the group, Barr. Benjamin Onwuka and over 15 others were arrested after they attempted to declare Biafra at the Enugu Government House.

    I lost the zeal for work that day. I couldn't even face my colleagues anymore. All I wanted was to be alone, alone with my God. 

I knew I had made mistakes already, I was too careless, I got carried away by her fake hospitality. I have never come across such an height of desperation in any lady in my entire life. 

My heart was pounding, my head was aching, my legs turned to jelly. I knew I had to seek the comfort of my room that very moment. I headed towards the school gate and home, I went. I neither saw nor heard anyone all the way home, even though I walked through the market. I felt alone in the whole wide world. All I knew was that I entered my room and sat on the bed.

Biafra’s sit-at-home witnesses partial compliance in South-East



     The sit-at-home order given by the pro-Biafrian groups witnessed partial compliance in some states in South Eastern Nigeria.

In Enugu, it was observed that many locations within the metropolis were deserted.

Man sentenced to five months in jail for stealing fiancée’s money, phone



       A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja,  sentenced a 34-year-old applicant, Elvis Anthony, to five months imprisonment for stealing his fiancée’s money and cell phone.

The Judge, Inuwa Maiwada, however, gave the convict an option of N5, 000 fine.

      I got to the school where I worked, only to see Faith speaking with some of my colleagues, two ladies and three guys. They were all Corp members too in the same school. I actually woke up late that very day, probably because of last night's encounter, so they all got to school before me. Immediately one of them sighted me, they all looked in my direction and watched as I approached.

I wondered what Faith was doing or discussing with them because that wasn't her PPA. I greeted them with worry written all over my face. I was still bothered about what happened last night and more so about what Faith was up to.

Cleric stated Buhari or APC govt not the problem, Nigerians disobey Allah



    An Abuja-based Muslim cleric, Ustaz Umar Solomon, has urged Nigerians to stop blaming President Muhammadu Buhari or the government for the nation’s problems.

Solomon said this  in Abuja at the annual Ramadan lecture with the theme: ‘Fighting Poverty And Creation of Wealth in Islam’, organised by the Afemai Islamic Movement, AIM.

10 beheaded in Mozambique attack



   Police in Mozambique said 10 people were beheaded in an attack over the weekend in an area where previous Islamist attacks have been reported.

Radio Mozambique said police in the capital Maputo could not immediately give details of the attack in a village near the town of Palma, close to Mozambique’s border with Tanzania and near one of the world’s biggest untapped offshore gas fields.

Court stops Enugu Federal Neuropsychiatric hospital from sacking resident doctors



   The National Industrial Court sitting in Enugu presided over by Hon I.J Essien has stopped moves by the management of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu to sack resident doctors in the health institution.

Newsmen reports that the court ordered the hospital to maintain status quo antebellum in their move to exit or terminate resident doctors of the Hospital from their employment and Residency programme until the next date of the matter fixed for 16th July 2018.

Israeli intelligence minister denies Gaza ceasefire



    Israel said it struck 25 more Hamas sites overnight after a barrage of rocket and mortar fire from the Gaza Strip, denying Palestinian claims of a ceasefire Wednesday after the worst flare-up since a 2014 war.

The exchange of fire raised the possibility of yet another war in the beleaguered Palestinian enclave run by Islamist movement Hamas, which would be the fourth since 2008.

Catholic Bishops fault Buhari’s Democracy Day remarks on killer herdsmen



    The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, yesterday, said the Church was dissatisfied with President Muhammadu Buhari’s remarks on the killer herdsmen during his Democracy Day address to the nation.

In his speech, President Buhari had said that issue of killer herdsmen was being addressed and that the identified culprits and their sponsors shall be made to face the full wrath of the law.

   The two groups also scolded the President over his silence on killings by herdsmen and the remaining Dapchi schoolgirl from Yobe State in the Boko Haram captivity, Leah Sharibu.

PDP says Buhari lied in Democracy Day speech, insists address will be president’s last



  The Peoples Democratic Party PDP on Tuesday described the Democracy Day address by President Muhammadu Buhari as “uninspiring, hollow, full of self-praise and false performance claims”.

PDP insisted that Buhari’s speech failed to address “issues agitating the minds of Nigerians,” adding that the address was full of false claims.

SDP suspends Abdul Ahmed Ishaq National Deputy Chairman



  The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has suspended its National Deputy Chairman, Abdul Ahmed Ishaq for 10 months from the party for anti-party activities and financial misappropriation.

A statement from the SDP ward chairman of Badarawa/Malali, Kaduna, Yunusa Sani Mohammad, said, “The leadership of Social Democratic Party SDP in Badarawa/Malali Ward has suspended the party National Deputy Chairman, Abdul Ahmed Ishaq based over anti-party activities and financial misappropriation.

Goodluck Jonathan insist Nigerian youths are not lazy



     Ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan has maintained that Nigerian youths are not lazy.

Jonathan said what Nigerian youths need was a leader who believes in them and gives them the platform to showcase their talents.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari while addressing the Commonwealth Business Forum in London, had said most Nigerian youths wanted everything free without doing anything.

Oyo tertiary institutions workers issue 21-day ultimatum to Governor Ajimobi over non-payment of salaries



     Workers in the six tertiary institutions owned by Oyo state government have issued a 21-day ultimatum to the state government over the non-payment of their full salaries and poor funding of the institution.

The workers noted that the ultimatum became necessary due to the failure of the state government to honour an agreement reached between both parties on January 31, 2018.”

    The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has said that the attack by armed herdsmen targeting the peaceful Catholic Church’s facilities and the shooting of priest and students training for priesthood shows that the attacks have switched from inter-ethnic terrorism to a full blown persecution of Christians of Northern origin.

This was as the rights group insisted that, “We are simply deceiving ourselves by celebrating democracy day when Nigerians in their thousands have been gruesomely despatched to the great World beyond by armed Fulani herdsmen who are being protected by the powers that be currently in Nigeria.”

We have faced a lot of challenges on this journey and Nigerians have stood by us in achieving the three cardinal points of this administration namely; Security, Corruption and the Economy.

2. The commemoration of this year’s Democracy Day is a celebration of freedom, a salute to the resilience and determination of Nigerians and a recommitment by Government to keep its promise to lead Nigeria into a new era of justice and prosperity.

Prof. Jega says Senators, Reps are notorious for seeking bribe



      Former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC,  Attahiru Jega earlier alleged that members of the National Assembly are notorious for seeking bribes to carry out their constitutional duties.

Jega said this while delivering this year’s Democracy Day lecture at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.

Buhari chides SGF for not inviting Orubebe to democracy lecture



    President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday faulted the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for not inviting a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsay Orubebe, to the 2018 Democracy Day Lecture.

IPOB stated Igbo a defeated race, shameful complicit



     The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has accused the Igbos, especially the elites, of abandoning its founder, Nnamdi Kanu, describing their action as a big shame.

In a statement issued by an activist and social critic, Ikechukwu Nnaji, and signed by the Publicity Secretary of the IPOB, Emma Powerful, the group said it was the biggest shame on the Igbo race to be silent over the disappearance of Kanu.

     A renowned All Progressives Congress chieftain in Bauchi State, Alhaji Ali Saidu, has urged the party’s factional headquarters not to hesitate to sack Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, and nine others from the party.

The APC chieftain is accusing Dogara’s faction of dragging the APC before the court of law in Abuja, where he is challenging the recent Congresses in the State.

CACOL reacts to arraignment of Rivers’ Secretary of State Government over $115 million Diezani fund



    The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, has commended the arraignment of the Secretary to Rivers State Government, Mr Kenneth Kobani for money laundering.

In a statement issued by Mr Debo Adeniran, the Executive Chairman of CACOL, it stated that the six-count charge brought against the duo of Kobani and one Samuel Okpoko, bordering on money laundering involving a sum of N750m, was a great step in tackling corruption in the country.
