Group carpets Al-makura committee, Fayemi over botched Ekiti APC primary election

A Socio-political group in Ekiti State, Ekiti Transparency And Accountability Group, ETAG, has described the conduct of the Ekiti 2018 APC governorship committee headed by Nassarawa State governor, Alhaji Tanko Al-makura as shameful, ruse, barbaric and uncivilized.

The group said it was unfortunate that the committee, which is supposed to be an unbiased entity, failed every litmus test in discharging a credible, transparent and acceptable primary election for less than 3000 delegates in Ekiti state.

The group made the observation in a release signed by its Director General, Dr. Adetoye Ajibola and Executive Secretary, Mr. Fatai Azeez and made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti after the botched primary election on Saturday in Ekiti State.

What happened on Saturday was a clear attempt by the Al-makura led committee, in connivance with the minister of solid minerals, who is also an aspirant, Dr. Kayode Fayemi to rob the people of Ekiti of an acceptable and most popular candidate.
The Al-makura committee is nothing but a sham, chameleon and an assemblage of certain same character designed to crown the inordinate ambition of Fayemi and his few cohorts.

It is unfortunate and annoying, the position of the Chairman of the Committee to kick-start the exercise despite protests by the Agents of other Aspirants over the conduct of Fayemi’s Agents and supporters who were allowed illegally into the stadium and were roaming freely amongst delegates.

The presence of such supporters who had no business at the venue of the exercise was the major cause of the imbroglio that led to the abrupt end of the primary election.
The situation wouldn’t have degenerated to such a chaotic and ignoramous state, if the committee was ready to do the needful by listening to complaints of the people. But instead for the committee to rise up to its responsibilities on time, it looked the other way until the situation became so tense and uncontrollable.

Therefore, the group is unequivocally and unparalled calling for an immediate disbandment of the committee to save the APC from future embarrassement, especially at getting an acceptable candidate for july 14 governorship election in the state.

It commended other aspirants and their followers “for mature and civil way, they expressed their grievance while the exercise was on-going despite provocation”, saying their conduct had prevented ugly situation that would have followed the unfortunate development.

It also called on the security agents to be more responsive and responsible to their duties at all times, saying professionalism should always be their first target ahead of other material things.
