Davido, Wizkid lead nominees in AFRIMMA Awards
Nigerians Superstars, Wizkid and Davido have dominated nomination for the Afrimma Awards and Music Festival. They were both nominated for Best male artiste and Song of the year categories.
However, Wizkid seems to be leading Davido on the list. Other Notable artists on the list are; Falz, Yemi Alade, Mayorkun, Flavour, Tiwa Savage, Bracket,
Dice Ailes and Frank Edward.
The award is expected to hold on October 7 at House of Blues, Dallas, Texas.

Ortom returns to PDP, says APC ward chair ready to follow him
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State formally announced his membership of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Ortom also said that the APC ward chairman in the state was ready to join him in PDP. He said that he has forwarded the letter of his resignation from the All Progressives Congress to his ward chairman.
Ortom was elected on the platform of the ruling APC in 2015. According to his Wiki citation, Ortom had served in different political parties in Benue State, and the parties include the National Centre Party of Nigeria, where he served as State Publicity Secretary.
Angry youths stop Ortom’s convoy in Benue, insist he must not see APC leaders
A coalition of Benue youths comprising of over forty groups today prevented Governor Samuel Ortom from attending a scheduled meeting with the All Progressives Congress, APC, National leadership in Abuja.
The Governor was leaving Government House, Makurdi for the trip when they blocked his route carrying placards.
Oyo Chief Judge frees 30 inmates in Ibadan, to decongest prisons
The Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Munta Abimbola, ordered the released of no fewer than 30 inmates from the Agodi prison, Ibadan.
The inmates included 25 inmates who were released unconditionally, 3 who were released on bail. Others include one who was sent to the remand home on age basis and another who was released on bail to continue with his trial.

Yoruba coalition reveals Why they’ll break out of Nigeria in 2019
A coalition groups in the South West under the Yoruba Self-Determination Advancement Forum YOSEDAF has described restructuring as the only lifeline for Nigeria’s survival. They threatened that the Yoruba will break away from Nigeria if there is no urgent move to restructure the country.
The coalition, which comprises over 60 Yoruba self-determination platforms, said that restructuring would be its negotiating tool to support any presidential candidate in next year’s general elections.
CBN cries out That Nigerian government not willing to save for rainy day
The Monetary Policy Committee MPC of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, has warned the Federal Government to learn to save heavily from current improved crude oil sales for the rainy day.
CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, who read the communique of July MPC meeting in Abuja, said the committee, while discussing the economic report, observed that as the prices of crude oil increased in 2017 and 2018, the monthly allocation to various levels of government also increased, suggesting that Federal Government was not conscious of saving for the rainy day.
Federal Government postpones closure of Third Mainland Bridge
The proposed three-day closure of the Third Mainland Bridge for Investigative Maintenance Test earlier scheduled to last from July 27 to July 30 will now hold from August 24 to August 26.
News Agencies reports that the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday said the decision was taken after consultations with the Lagos State Government and other relevant stakeholders.
Fashola said the date shift was done in order to give succor and relief to the people of Lagos State and other inter-state road users and support the efforts of the State Government.
The Minister said he had directed the immediate deployment of trucks to the Apapa trailer park under construction which could accommodate about 300 trucks as part of efforts to decongest the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
He said this was a short term measure while construction works for the shoreline protection of the truck park continued.
He stated that the on-going palliative work on the sections of the Apapa-Oshodi Road, the on-going construction of the road leading to the Apapa Port from Ijora will soon be completed. The main exit route through Tincan – Oshodi – Oworonshoki is under procurement for award. When completed, the project will enable free flow of traffic in the axis.
Also following the visit of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to Lagos in connection with the Apapa Port Gridlock, the Federal Government has said, as a short term measure, a call up system in the control of truck movement would be introduced.
He added that a long term digital and ICT based system would be developed and deployed to replace the current manual operations.

A member of House of Representatives representing Ogbomoso North/Ogbomoso South/Oriire in Oyo State, Honorable Segun Ogunwuyi has opened up why he left the ruling All Progressives Congress APC and joined the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP.
Ogunwuyi, who confirmed his defection through a statement issued on his behalf by Peter Adegbola Ayoade, his Media Aide, revealed that he took the decision to dump APC due to what he described as intractable crisis in the ruling APC in the state.

While paraded in Lagos, the lady identified as Mariam Abiola, told reporters how she killed four persons on a day she wore Hijab.

Police block Senate President's Saraki’s convoy in Abuja
The police earlier blocked the Senate President Bukola Saraki’s convoy at Lake Chad junction in Abuja. Saraki’s residence is located on the Lake Chad road. He was reportedly on his way to report to the police headquarters upon the last night invitation by the police.
The Inspector-General of Police IGP, Ibrahim Idris, asked Saraki to appear at the office of Intelligence Response Team IRT office in Abuja, over the robbery incident that took place in Offa, Kwara state, in April this year.
In a letter dated July 23 and addressed to Saraki, Idris asked the Senate President to be at IRT’s office at 8am on Tuesday “for further investigation”.

Crisis brews in Ekiti Assembly as APC lawmakers reject adjournment
Fresh crisis is brewing in the Ekiti state House of Assembly following the adjournment of legislative business to October by the majority Peoples Democratic Party PDP members of the House.
The minority All Progressives Congress APC legislators described the long adjournment as illegal and not in the interest of the people of the state who elected them.
The APC Assembly members led by the Minority Leader, Chief Gboyega Aribisogan of Ikole Constituency 1, alleged that the long adjournment was masterminded by Governor Ayo Fayose in a bid to emasculate the legislative arm.

Two policemen shot dead in Kaduna
There was panic at the headquarters of the Kaduna State police command, after two policemen were shot dead in a gun battle at Tabani village, along Brinin Gwari- Funtua road of the state. The policemen were ambushed and killed by unidentified gunmen while on routine patrol at Tabanni village.
Reacting to the incident, Spokesman of Kaduna Police Command Mukhtar Aliyu, in a statement said, The Kaduna State Police Command wishes to categorically state that, at about 06:30pm, a team of police officers on special duty, while on routine patrol at Tabanni Village along Birnin-Gwari – Funtua Road, were ambushed and attacked by unidentified armed men.
Nigeria Police explains Why they can’t arrest, investigate Adeosun over NYSC certificate scandal
The Nigerian Police Force have stated that they cannot investigate the alleged forgery of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, exemption certificate by the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, because there is no formal complaint against her.

Hearing stalled as EFCC cites insecurity in Plateau over Jang’s arraignment
The commencement of hearing on alleged misappropriation of funds by former Plateau state governor, Senator Jonah Jang and Yusuf Pam was stalled by the inability of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC to present its witnesses in court, citing insecurity in the state.

EFCC confirms Fayose will face trial after leaving office Ekiti Election
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has said Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State will face criminal trial after his tenure. This was confirmed by the agency’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement earlier this week.
Uwujaren, however, made it clear that it is the Federal High Court and not the EFCC, that will determine Fayose’s fate.

Killer of ex-Ondo Deputy Governor’s daughter arrested
An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court remanded 27- year-old Seidu-Shakiru Adeyemi in Olokuta prison for allegedly killing his 25-year-old girlfriend, Khadijat Oluboyo.
Reports show that Oluboyo, a 25 year-old final year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, was found dead at the home of her boyfriend on July 2 in Akure.
