3 killed in Ogun by thunderstorm

Three persons believed  to be in their early 20s have been killed by thunderstorm in Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State.

Reports gathered that the incident occurred around 3p.m, yesterday, following a heavy downpour. It was gathered that the deceased and one other person were said to be riding motorcycle but decided to take shelter in a kiosk close to the former Gateway Hotel Annex along the Ijebu Ode for the rain to subside.

The thunderstorm was said to have hit three of them simultaneously while the fourth person escaped unhurt. An eyewitness told reporters that the incident might be out of ordinary, claiming death by thunderstorm was seen as punishment for a wrong doing, saying that the three corpses are still lying at the spot. It was leaned that although some policemen visited the scene, they could not remove the corpses and did not touch a bag said to belong to one of the deceased.

However, a sympathizer simply identified as Ridwan, claimed to know one of the deceased and gave his name as Ayo from Imomo-Ijebu in Ijebu North-East Local Government. According to him Ayo was a motorcyclist and fan repairer. He was seen making frantic effort to inform his family.
