1. Soldiers of the Special Strike Forces deployed in Operation Lafiya Dole, on Sunday protested against their posting to Marte, a Local Government Area (LGA) in Northern Borno State.

The soldiers reacted to the news of the latest posting on Sunday evening by firing gunshots in the air at the Maiduguri International Airport in the state capital, a development that sent passengers and workers at the airport scampering for safety.


2. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the bye-election in Bauchi south senatorial district, securing its third National Assembly seat in 24 hours.

Lawal Gumau, candidate of the APC in the election, defeated Ladahan Salihu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Gumau, a member of the house of representatives. He polled 119,489 votes to beat Salihu who got 50,256 votes.

3. The Police Command in Kaduna State has said four of its operatives died during a gun battle with bandits in the state.


The Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Sabo Yakubu, said a team of detectives attached to IGP Intelligent Response Team ( IRT) while on operation along Jankasa village of Rigasa in Igabi Local Government Area in Kaduna State was ambushed by bandits.

4. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday, said it uncovered a fresh plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the cabal in the Buhari Presidency to use security agencies and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to invite, arrest and detain Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.

It also disclosed that the persistent request by the presidency and the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for the legislature to reconvene and consider the INEC budget was a ploy to impeach the two principal officers.

6. The All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, should be apologizing for “gang raping Nigeria” for 16 years.

The APC said instead of condemning the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, the opposition party should rather keep quiet and allow the administration concentrate.

7. Former Abia governor, Dr Orji Kalu, says Nigeria should adopt unicameral legislature as the present arrangement is economically wasteful.

According to him, one of the chambers of the National Assembly should be abolished, either the Senate or the House of Representatives.

8. The Benue State Government has fired back at Steve Lawani, the immediate past deputy governor of the state over his recent media attack on Governor Samuel Ortom.

Tahav Argezua, Special Adviser to the governor on Media and ICT, wondered why Lawani, who once passed a vote of confidence on Ortom was now faulting the governor’s performance.

9. Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to leave office as Nigeria’s president in 2023 if elected next year.

He said this in reaction to fears that a new president from the North would do two-terms against the current arrangement of eight years turn between the North and the South.

10. Mr Randie Chima, a media aide to Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has been reported dead.

Chima, who was Senior Special Assistant to Obiano on television documentary, was found dead in his room at Nwakpodulu Avenue, Awka, the Anambra State capital.
