Governor Okorocha reveals reasons behind Saraki, others defection to PDP
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, has disclosed that those who defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, planned their defection two years ago.
Okorocha, who is the Chairman of APC’s Governors’ Forum made the disclosure while interacting with journalists at the Government House, Owerri, the state capital.
Recall that lawmakers in the National Assembly had about a week ago defected from the ruling APC.
On Tuesday last week, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki officially dumped the ruling APC and joined the opposition PDP.
While Nigerians were still trying to savour the news of Saraki’s defection, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal also officially dumped APC for PDP.
Reacting to the defections that have hit APC, Okorocha said those defecting from the party were not leaving because they detested the party, but that they realised they could not achieve their ambitions in it.
Governor Okorocha Stated that APC is not in crisis, those who are leaving the party are those who should leave, they are leaving for their political interest and not because they are not happy with the party.
He also disclosed that direct primaries would be adopted by APC in the state to determine the candidates of the party.
The governor disclosed that the method was chosen to avoid the occurrence of the earlier problems that marred the first congress held in the state
