"Justice League," DC's huge superhero team-up, has ended its theatrical run as the lowest-grossing DC Extended Universe film to date.

The DC version of "The Avengers," which unites Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Flash, made $229 million at the U.S. box office since opening in November 2017.

This puts "Justice League"$60 million behind the 2013 "Man of Steel," which is in fourth place. The movie is also $100 million behind the badly reviewed "Suicide Squad."

DC's top domestic grossing film remains "Wonder Woman," which hit $412 million and opened few months before "Justice League."

At the international box office, "Justice League" is also at the bottom with a total of $657 million. "Batman v Superman" is the highest grossing DC film internationally at $873 million. "Wonder Woman" takes the third spot with $821 million.

About "Justice League"

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy.

Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of meta-humans to stand against this newly awakened threat.  But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes - it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Until a personal family tragedy forced him to step down, "Justice League" was directed by Zack Snyder.

The directing was completed by Joss Whedon, who wrote and directed the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero films "The Avengers" (2012) and its sequel "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (2015).

The 2012 "Avengers"  grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide and became the third-highest-grossing film during its theatrical run.

DC's next film is "Aquaman," which is scheduled for release on December 21 2018. Patty Jenkins will return with the "Wonder Woman" sequel on November 1, 2019.

Also, DC recently announced that "A Wrinkle in Time" director Ava DuVernay will helm its superhero epic, New Gods."
