In its
renewed effort to assist the Nigeria Erosion And Watershed Management Project,
NEWMAP, to curb erosion-related disasters, the Delta State Government has paid
the N30million start-up fund and N500million counterpart fund for the NEWMAP
initiative.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. John Nani, gave the hint during a-five day Human Capacity and Team Building Training Programme organised by the World Bank in conjunction with Federal NEWMAP for NEWMAP States Project Management Unit, SPMUs, for four states (Delta, Imo Plateau and Gombe) in Asaba, yesterday.
Nani, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Nkem Ajufo, expressed optimism of the success of the training programme as well as the effective implementation of the NEWMAP projects across the states by participants, after the exercise.
Nani urged the participants to give special attention to the training programme to enrich themselves with necessary technical and managerial knowledge for the efficient realisation of their goals.
The Delta State Coordinator of NEWMAP, Isaac Ufiofio, assured them of the state government’s readiness to provide a conducive environment for the success of the programme in the state.
