Billionaire businessman Donald Trump made history as he is sworn into office at the inauguration ceremony in Washington
Donald Trump has become the 45th President of the United States today.
The inauguration kicked off before noon local time (5PM GMT) with millions watching around the world.
Trump's 35-word swearing-in, on the same bible used by Abraham Lincoln, happened on a 10,000 square foot platform in front of the Capitol that holds 1,600 people including ex-Presidents, prominent politicians and Trump's family.
He then made an inaugural address followed by a parade through the streets.
Security is tight in Washington DC, with protesters smashing windows and brandishing signs - and there will be a Women's March on Saturday.
Trump finishes with the words: "Make America Great Again"
Together we will make American strong, proud, and wealthy again, says Trump.
“And yes, together, we will make America great again!” he concludes.
“God bless America!”
Trump vows to open up the “mysteries of space”
Trump vows to open up the “mysteries of space”, and “free the earth from the miseries of disease.”
“Whether we are black or brown or white we all bleed the same red blood of patriots,” he says.
“We all enjoy the same glorious freedoms and we all salute the same great American flag.”
“Whether a child is born in the urban sprawl of Detroit or the windswept plains of Nebraska,” he adds, they were given the same breath of life by the same “almighty creator”.
'Most importantly, we will be protected by God'
“We will be protected by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement. And most importantly, we will be protected by God,” he says.
“We will no longer accept politicians who are all talk and no action constantly complaining but never doing anything about it.
“The time for empty talk is over. Now arrives the hour of action.”
“When you open your heart to patriotism there is no room for prejudice"
“We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone but rather let it shine as an example,” he says.
“At the bedrock of our politics will be a total allegiance to the United States of America.”
He adds: “When you open your heart to patriotism there is no room for prejudice.” We at Mirror Towers are not 100% sure what this means.
