Three multi-level rice processing mills,
comprising of paddy thresher, pre-cleaner, steam parboiling, mechanical batch
paddy rice dryer, Huller, Destoner and other facilities, will be provided to three
cooperative societies in Delta state.
State Commissioner for Agriculture and
Natural Resources, Hon. Austin Chikezie who made the disclosure at Ibusa, also
revealed that one of the rice mills had already been installed at Obior in
Aniocha South Local Government Area, while two others will be installed at Agbarho
in Ughelli North and Onicha-Ukwuani in Ndokwa West before the end of next
month.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of
a training workshop for beneficiaries of the 2016 Rice Value Chain Development
Programmeat Ughelli North Local Government Secretariat, Chikezie assured that
the state government will assist farmers in land preparation, as well as
provide rice seeds, herbicides and fertilizers as loans, noting that farmers
will only repay the input supplied and processing plants.
He also commended the agricultural drive
of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in improving the productivity of farmers in the state.
