Trump signs his papers and says: "Good!" & Final words from Barack Obama

Even as Obama speaks, Donald Trump is signing the documents that confirm his presidency in the Capitol.

Over his shoulder is House of Representatives speaker Paul Ryan, who disowned him just weeks before he was elected.
Trump signs, breathes deeply and says: “Good!”

“You proved the power of hope"

Ex-President Barack Obama has arrived by helicopter to Joint Base Andrews, where he gives his final speech to his former staff.
“Hello everybody!” he says. When he says his speech will be BRIEF, they cry: “Nooo!”
He adds: “When we started on this journey we did so with an abiding faith in the American people and their ability, our ability, to join together and change the country in ways that would make life better for our kids, our grandkids.
“It was met sometimes with skepticism and doubt. Some folks didn’t think we could pull it off. There were those who thought the institutions of power and privilege in this country were too deeply entrenched.
“And yet all of you came together, from small towns and big cities, a whole bunch of you really young, and you decided to believe.
“You knocked on DOORS, you made phone calls, you talked to your parents who didn’t know how to pronounce ‘Barack Obama’”.
He adds it wasn’t “blind optimism” or “wilful ignorance” that drove people “it was hope”.
“You proved the power of hope.”
