Buildings, properties worth millions of Naira were gutted by an inferno that emanated from an exploded tanker at Ubeji community yesterday.
The ugly incidence which occurred at few minutes past 8pm forced residents of Ubeji to an ill-prepared vigil as people were seen trying to put out the inferno before the arrival of fire service trucks.
It was eventually put out completely by a complementary effort of two fire service trunks from Matrix Energy Oil and Gas and PPMC. The Truck was believed to have loaded from one of the tank farms at Ifie but the owner of the truck is yet to be identified as at the time of this report.
Rize FM correspondents Monoyo Edon and Dokpe Odin who were at the scene of the accident report that the accident happened when a petroleum tanker conveying diesel fell off the Ubeji-Egbokodo road after one of its tyres got trapped in a gutter at a portion of the road under construction.
Some of the victims who managed to speak with our correspondents could not express themselves due to the shock of the incidence.
The people of the community also called on government and relevant authorities to speed up work on the road.
