Del Potro knocks out Roger Federer
Argentine Juan Del Potro denied tennis buffs in New York the mouth watering semi-final match between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Instead the big serving towering player would play the role as he beat the Swiss ace 7-5 3-6 7-6 6-4 in the quarter final, evoking memories of his 2009 victory in the final of the U S Open, when he also beat Federer.
Del Potro’s victory yesterday also denied Federer the chance of clinching a record 20th grand slam.
Federer had predicted that he would need to overcome the Argentine’s serve, forehand and fighting spirit to advance to the semi-finals.
Del Potro hit huge forehands, big serves and stayed focused when Federer seemed to be back in control in a one-sided second set.
