United Labour Congress of Nigeria, Delta State chapter steps up mobilisation for imminent strike

Delta State Council of United Labour Congress of Nigeria, ULC, has briefed stakeholders in the state of an imminent nationwide strike over pending issues with the Federal Government, even as it stepped up mobilisation for the industrial action.

Chairman, state council of ULC, Williams Akporeha at the meeting, attended by state chairmen of ULC affiliate industrial unions and leaders of civil society groups, called on leaders of affiliate industrial unions in the state to gear up for the nationwide indefinite strike.
He named some of the lingering demands from the Federal Government by congress to include: “Full salary payment to DSC workers by AMCON, the implementation of the 2009 agreement with ASUU and its conditions, the rehabilitation of roads leading to petroleum refineries and depots across the country, withdrawal of the proposed bill against perceived hate speeches by the National Assembly and the immediate release of certificate of registration to ULC.
The group appealed to members of the public to support and embrace the action of congress, which may begin on Friday, as a national concern to enable government to honour agreements and perform its statutory obligations to the Nigerian worker and the masses.
