Nigeria Basketball Federation have
confirmed to newsmen that the America-based national women's basketball team,
D'Tigress, preparing for the 2017 Afrobasket for Women holding in Bamako, Mali
from August 18 to August 27 will arrive in Nigeria on Saturday, August 5
to join their Nigeria-based counterparts ahead of the tourney.
According to a board member, retired
Colonel Sam Ahmedu, the team handled by American coach Sam Vincent has been
impressive in their preparation toward the tournament.
It was gathered that the team will
leave Florida where they have spent some weeks for Lagos tomorrow, August 4 and
arrive on August 5.
Ahmedu further revealed that Vincent
will come to Nigeria with nine outstanding players from the camp while thee
players will be added from the Nigerian camp to form the 12 players that will
represent Nigeria at the tournament.
Vincent led Nigeria to win the tournament
for the first time in 2003 in Mozambique and successfully defended the title
with Ayo Bakare as coach in 2005 in Abuja.
