As parts of measures to
boost the financial base of the state in the face of current economic realities
the Delta State House of Assembly has urged the State Ministry of Oil and Gas
to take urgent steps to curb the spate of pipeline vandalism and attacks on oil
facilities in the state.
The house who gave the
charge through the Chairman House Committee on Environment, Oil and Gas Hon.
Daniel Yingi during the defence of the proposed 2017 budget of the Ministry
said the activities of vandals and the attack on oil facilities is having a
negative toll on the income and economy of the state.
Hon Yingi noted that
there is need for the Commissioner of the Ministry of Oil and Gas Mr Mofe Pirah
to draw up action plans for adequate sensitization campaigns on the adverse
effects of vandalism and the continuous attacks on oil facilities.
He said while oil
remains the mainstay of the State’s economy the activities of vandals have
continued to affect the production quantum in the state and by extension
leading to a steady decline in her monthly revenue.
