Drought postpones Somaliland elections

Self-proclaimed republic of Somaliland is announcing a new date for elections, which had been postponed because of the need to tackle severe drought.

Somaliland's President, Ahmed Silanyo, has been given another nine months in office, as the elections will now take place in December and the three main political parties have welcomed the announcement.
The polls were originally scheduled for the end of this month.
Somaliland broke away from Somalia in 1991 but its independence has not been recognised internationally.
