Chelsea Football Club were crowned Premier League champions as Michy Batshuayi's late goal in 82nd minute gave them the victory they required to secure the title at West Brom. They still have two matches to play but their but mathematically, Tottenham which is the closest club, can't catch them any longer.
It looked as though Antonio Conte's side might be forced to delay their celebrations as they were frustrated for long periods by the resilience and organisation of their hosts, West Bromwich Albion.
But the mood changed and the title was won with eight minutes left as substitute Batshuayi, who had previously endured a season of struggle after his £33m move from Marseille, ended a scrappy passage of play by steering a finish high past Ben Foster.
It has taken a while for Michy Batshuayi to repay his £33 million transfer fee at Chelsea, but it is all about timing, and the Belgian forward's 82nd-minute winner against West Brom at The Hawthorns earned him the distinction of scoring the goal that sealed the Premier League title for Antonio Conte's team.
Batshuayi has been a huge disappointment at Stamford Bridge, with his late strike against Tony Pulis's men his first in the league since August. But just as it appeared likely that Chelsea would have to wait until Monday to confirm themselves as champions with a win at home to Watford, the 23-year-old delivered when it mattered by bundling the ball home from close range in front of the ecstatic Chelsea fans.
The final whistle sparked wild celebrations among Chelsea's fans and manager Conte was tossed high into the air by his squad. The Italian can now set his sights on emulating compatriot Carlo Ancelotti's 2010 feat of winning the league and domestic Double as the Blues prepare for an FA Cup final against Arsenal at Wembley on 27 May.
