On an average morning before 8 a.m., my thoughts go something like:
“Is my mum going to be OK?”
“Does my dog need acupuncture? Why is she still limping? I’m a terrible pawrent.”
“Why am I always so behind?” **glaring at to-do list**
“Do I have enough money saved?”
“Why are other people so much further along at my age? Is there something wrong with me?”
“Did I let Jane down when I turned down her event? Is she going to stop speaking to me?”
“Am I having enough sex?”
All before my morning coffee.
A lack of focus is crippling. Especially when your thoughts wander a little too far and trigger unpleasant emotions, such as guilt, anxiety, and worry.
A focus wheel, outlined by Abraham Hicks in Ask and It Is Given, can help combat that. When you ditch your “monkey mind” thinking—what Zen Buddhists refer to as incessant mental chatter—in which you flit from thought to thought with no control or concentration, you’re able to:
· Feel calmer and happier, in an instant!
· Change your point of attraction by increasing your energy.
· Manifest what you want because you are focused upon it. This is how the law of attraction works!
Sounds great, right? That’s because it is. Here's how to create a focus wheel that works for you (you can also scroll to the bottom for a quick video).
1. Draw a large circle on a piece of paper.
2. Draw a smaller circle in the center of the large circle. Then divide the space between the two into 12 equal sections (like a clock).
3. Determine what you don’t want—in order to identify what you DO WANT. If you don’t want to be single, your intention can be to find love, or if you don’t want to be unhealthy, you might want to rock vibrant, glowing health.
4. Write what you DO want (your intention) in the middle of the smaller circle: romantic love, a fitter body, a promotion to X or Y.
5. This is where the fun begins! Find statements that feel real and good to you that support you in being, doing, or having what you want. These have to feel true, positive, and realistic!
For example, if your intention is, “I want to have more money,” your supporting statements could be, “It’s my annual review soon; I’ve worked hard the past 12 months!” “I do have a good-feeling side hustle idea,” and/or “I’m ready to start selling stuff on eBay.” Thoughts like, “I’m ready to win the lottery!” or “I will win big in Vegas” probably won’t feel good/possible/true to you.
6. Write those thoughts and statements in the 12 sections around the inner circle. Enjoy the process of jotting down the supportive statements and allow each thought or idea to beget more. You might think of stuff like, “I have $300 in my PayPal account!” and “My Delta miles might cover that trip!”
Keep coming up with more thoughts that feel good and real. Pepper them around the statement in the center of the wheel. They don’t have to be crazy big or life-changing. Just allow the flow and go quickly here—don’t over think it!
You can also think of truths in your life such as, “I’ve always been able to pay my bills” and “So far I’ve supported myself if having my most important desires met.”
Use quantifiable examples in your life to boost you too! This can include, “I’m so happy I have X or Y marketable skill!” and “Two recruiters reached out to me this year—I feel safe that I’ll always have a job.”
7. Add a little woo-woo! I like to write statements like, “Abundance is my birthright” and “Money flows to me easily and effortlessly.” I love the Denise Duffield Thomas quote: “It’s safe for me to make money doing things that are extremely easy for me.” What spiritual statements feel good to you?
8. Sit back and observe your wheel! Notice the difference in the way you feel after going through this exercise. You want something. You are clear about it. There are lots of truths supporting you in being, doing, or having it!
How has your energy shifted as a result of just your focus? Pay attention to the way your body feels. I bet it’s 100 times better than before creating your focus wheel.
9. Create a brand new statement based on how you currently feel: It may be, “I feel safe and ready go the next level financially” or “I feel wealthy because I’m able to attract and create whatever I need.” Be sure to write that down at the top of the page.
Enjoy this entire exercise! Focus is an underrated, magical power. It allows you to go deeper into your self in what can feel like a superficial world. It clears your mind and energy of distractions. Nothing shifts but your focus. And that is tremendously powerful.
Keep your focus wheel somewhere you can see it when you need it. And create one whenever you need to boost your vibration and concentration in the area of your life that you want to improve.
