Speaking today in Kaduna, Alhassan said one of the new facilities, a one story building within Kaduna Prisons, had reached 95 per cent completion, which when completed, would accommodate additional 200 inmates.
Meanwhile, the controller revealed that 75 inmates were released in the first quarter of 2017, including 21 inmates who could not pay fine or perfect their bail conditions.
He also appealed to judges to sentence convicts to community service in relevant instances rather than outright jail terms to decongest the prisons.
Furthermore, the state prison command is set to train over 100 inmates on carpentry, barbing, tailoring, hair dressing and computer appreciation this year with the support of Kaduna State Government and the National Open University.
