Independent National Electoral
Commission, INEC, says call by Nigerians for decentralisation of voting is
unconstitutional.
According to Ndidi Okafor, Deputy
Director, Public Relations, INEC, Federal Capital Territory, it is not possible
to register in one place and vote in another, as the law establishing the
commission did not give it the power to allow decentralisation of voting thus, it
would be illegal to embark on such idea.
She, however, encouraged those that
had moved from where they registered to go to the continuous voter registration
centre in their area councils to transfer their votes to their present
location, as INEC had provided for transfer of documentation option for
Nigerians to transfer their votes, interstate or intra-state.
