Secretary-General of NUT says encouraging teachers to obtain professional certificate would help eliminate quacks from the nation’s educational system

     Ikpe Obong, Secretary-General, Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, says encouraging teachers to obtain professional certificate would help eliminate quacks from the nation’s educational system.

   Obong in an interview in Abuja said the union was collaborating with Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria to ensure that no one with at least NCE certification is allowed to teach.
   According to him, employing teachers with low qualification in order to pay low salary might be beneficial to the proprietors but dangerous to the education system.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government is also contemplating the sack of unregistered and non-professional teachers from classrooms by 2018.
