Anambra community set to build Chinua Achebe cultural centre

The people of Ogidi Community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State have concluded arrangement to build a cultural centre in honour of their late illustrious son, Prof. Chinua Achebe.

The centre, when completed will bring people from all over the world to Ogidi for conferences and discussions about late Prof Achebe and other issues in remembrance of the literary legend and icon.
Rising from its first community meeting after 19 years at the Igwe’s palace at the weekend, the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Alex Onyido said the motive was to immortalise the late son of the soil who made the community proud through his literary work.
He said he visited the family of Achebe in the United States recently where he told them about the new centre to be built and named after their late father, due to his contributions to the development of the community and placing the community on the world map.
The Igwe noted that the family welcomed the idea and commended the community for the gesture and promised to be part of the annual conference in memory of their father in Ogidi community.
He further commended the community for their support since he assumed office last year as the new king of Ogidi after 19 years, saying that the community will continue to compete favorably with the communities in the state in terms of developmental projects
