The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it captured a total of 70, 039 new registrants in Delta State in the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise. The number is made up of 39, 749 males and 31, 290 females.
Addressing journalists at the INEC office, in Asaba, to flag off the Claims and Objections phase of the exercise, yesterday, the state Administrative Secretary in Delta, Mrs. Rose Orianran-Anthony, said the number was quite impressive and was a clear indication that the electorate had confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.
According to her, the display of the new registration exercise will last for seven days to afford people the opportunity to make claims, objections corrections and discovery of wrong information arising from the collected data such as names, age, address, polling units among others, before the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) could be printed.
She said because of the difficult terrain in some reverine ares, the commission had to create 12 additional registration centres at Aniocha North, Bomadi, Oshimili South and North, Burutu, Ughelli North and South, Patani, Ika North East, Warri South, North and South-West.
