Better understanding
between the Delta states’ Board of Internal Revenue and taxpayers, to enhance
service delivery is what Governor Ifeayin Okowa is seeking.
He made the call at a stakeholders’ forum organised by Delta states’ Board of Internal Revenue in collaboration with the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria in Warri, which was aimed at educating tax payers and other members of the public on tax issues.
The Governor also advised taxpayers to beware of touts to save themselves from embarrassment.
On his part, Chairman of the board, Monday Onyema, said the board adhered strictly to the principles of taxation in its activities, even as he denied that the board was involved in multiple taxes of taxpayers as being claimed by some taxpayers.
Earlier, some of the taxpayers had accused the local government councils of collecting different taxes from them and called for an enabling law that would ensure uniform tenement rate.
