Oyo state has approved 15-year jail term for land grabbers

15-year jail term awaits persons who engage in forceful seizure of land in Oyo state, as Governor Abiola Ajimobi has signed a law that criminalizes the act.

If found culpable by the court, offenders may also be given an option of not less than 500,000 fine, or both.
This is one of the provisions of the new Real Properties Protection Law, 2016, which Governor Ajimobi signed into law at the Executive Council Chambers in Ibadan.
The law also prescribes 10-year jail term or a fine 500,000 upon conviction for illegal entry into any construction site to demand any fee or levy in respect of construction activities.
Furthermore, anyone who writes frivolous and unwarranted petition, containing false claims under the anti-land grabbing law is liable to imprisonment for 10 years of conviction.
