All is now ready for the opening ceremony of the 6th Delta State Sports
Festival, which will take place at Ozoro Polytechnic Ultra-Modern Stadium, in
Ozoro, today, May 8 2017.
Meanwhile, Athletes from the 25 Local
Government areas of the State have arrived in Asaba for kick off of the Games,
which will be declared open by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Sports enthusiasts from within and outside
the state including the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, Tonobok Okowa,
Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission and other dignitaries are expected to
be present during the 7 day event.
Sporting activities to be competed for
include Boxing, Chess, Badminton, swimming, Judo, Kokowa, Kungfu, Karate,
Gymnastics, Scrabble, Ayo, Table Tennis, Para-Table Tennis, Wrestling,
Taekwondo, Weightlifting, Power Lifting, Tennis, Para-Tennis, Golf and Squash.
Speaking on the event, Director General of
the Delta State Sports Commission, Victor Onugagamue, stated that
non-programmed athletes will be given the opportunity to compete for honours at
the Games, as it will be used for selection of athletes that will represent the
State in the National Youth Games coming up in Ilorin, Kwara State, in August
2017 and the National Sports Festival in Calabar.
