House of Representatives calls for registration of motorcycles, tricycles to stem crime

House of Representatives is calling for the registration of motorcycles and tricycles across the country to increase revenue and reduce accidents on the roads.
The house also mandated the Committee on Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, to interface with the Directorate of Road Transport Service and other stakeholders on the matter and report back in four weeks.
The resolution was sequel to the adoption of a motion on the need to regulate the use of motorcycles and tricycles on public roads, sponsored by Hon. Sunday Karimi.
Moving the motion, Karimi said that the unregulated use of motorcycles and tricycles had become a security threat in most parts of the country.
According to him, aside licensing motorcycles and tricycles to boost revenue generation for the government, the move will also reduce accidents arising from untrained and inexperienced drivers plying the roads.
