Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has passed the Local Government Administration bill 2017 into law




  

    The passage followed the consideration of the report of the Joint House Committees on Local Government and  Chieftaincy Affairs; and Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights and Public Petitions submitted by the Chairman,  Idongesit Ntekpere yesterday during plenary.

   The lawmakers in their separate contributions pointed out that the new local government law will enhance the provision of basic social amenities to the rural people.
   Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Head of the Joint committee, Ntekpere, said that the law now makes it mandatory for the swearing in ceremony of democratically  elected officials of the local government councils.
   Earlier in his remarks, Speaker of the House,  Onofiok Luke said that the new law which is a fundamental legal document would consolidate on the efforts of Akwa Ibom State government in delivering good governance at the grassroots level.
