The Association of Senior Civil
Servants of Nigeria has suspended the eight-week-long strike it embarked on in
some Federal Unity Colleges in the country.
The association, in a statement by
its Secretary-General, Alade Lawal, yesterday said the decision to shelve the
industrial action for the next 30 days was as a result of appeals from parents,
guardians and other well-meaning Nigerians.
Lawal said a consensus was reached
after a meeting of the leadership of the union with the zonal coordinators and
the unit chairmen of the association in the affected colleges.
He said the failure of the
government to pay the outstanding salaries of affected teachers in the next 30
days would trigger an indefinite strike in all the 104 Federal Unity Colleges
FUC in the country.
