Nigeria has been drawn in Group A alongside DR Congo, Mali and
Cote d’Ivoire in the official draw for FIBA Afro Basket 2017 which took place at
The Westin Turtle Bay Resort and Spa in Balaclava, Mauritius.
The ceremony for the draw also served to unveil the
newly-designed FIBA Afro Basket trophy in a video.
The new trophy which will be handed out for the first time on
September 16 to the FIBA Afro Basket 2017 champions, has an etched map of
Africa engraved, as well as all the past continental champions from 1962-2015
editions.
Meanwhile, FIBA Afro Basket 2017, the continent’s flagship basketball event
will take place from September 8-16 in Dakar the capital of Senegal and Tunis the
capital of Tunisia.
In the Group Phase, billed for September 8-10 2017, Dakar will
host Group B and D, while teams drawn in groups A and C will compete in Tunis.
The other draws include Angola, Central African Republic,
Morocco and Uganda, Group for Group B, Tunisia, Guinea, Rwanda and Cameroon,
for Group C and Senegal, Mozambique, Egypt and South Africa for Group D.
