Rize FM’s correspondents, Ruth Amadin and Andrew Agbontaen, who monitored Ogunu/Ekurede Urhobo ward Ward 3, Ekuruede Itsekiri/Ugbuwangue Ward 4 and GRA Ward 5, report that security personnel of different outfits were on ground to ensure peace and order in each polling unit.
Party agents were seen observing the electoral process, as officers of the state Independent Electoral Commission were seen going about their duties without hindrance.
While election materials arrived early in some units, it was not the same for others, which delayed accreditation and voting; a situation which electorates expressed mixed feelings on.
At Units 3 and 4, Ward 5 Nana College, the Vice Principal of the school, explained that despite the elections, students of the school are still participating in the on-going West African School Certificate Examination, adding that each event went on smoothly without one interrupting the other.
Schools under Warri South Constituency 1were also seen to be under lock and key, following an earlier directive of the state commissioner for Basic Education, Chiedu Ibie, to give way for the polls.
Also speaking in an interview Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comrade Mofe Edema, hailed INEC for the smooth process of the polls.
Meanwhile, business activities at Warri Main Market were observed t although sketchy, as few shops were open. The story was however not the same at the popular Ibo market, where most shops were locked, with traders around their shops.
The Independent Electoral Commission is saddled with the task of conducting elections at federal, state and local government levels.
As Delta state residents in Warri South Constituency 1 today went out to carry out their civic responsibilities to vote for their preferred candidate for the well-contested State House of Assembly Seat, it was observed that the population of electorates did not meet the expectations of the electoral body.
Expressing this dissatisfaction in an interview at INEC’s office located in Esisi road, Warri, with Rize FM’s Correspondents, Ruth Amadin, Joan Igbava and Andrew Agbontaen, INEC’s National Commissioner coordinating South-South zone, Dr. Mohammed Lekki, also called on contestants, political parties and electorates to await official results from the electoral body calm
DR. LEKKI
Today’s election was contested by over 5 candidates under various political parties, with only one due to be declared winner after due collation of results from different wards.
