I’ll dethrone monarchs who aid kidnappers –Ambode

Worried by allegations of aiding and abetting of criminal activities by some Lagos monarchs, the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has threatened to dethrone and prosecute any indicted monarch  in this regard.

He spoke against the backdrop of allegation by the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Oseni that some monarchs are aiding and abetting criminal activities in the state. The governor, who spoke through the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Muslim Folami, yesterday lamented the situation, while addressing traditional rulers in Alausa, Ikeja, yesterday.

Folami said that the state government will not hesitate to apply the full weights of the law against any traditional ruler, no matter how influential he is for aiding criminal activities in the state.

His words: “Intelligence has revealed that some of them, particularly from Ikorodu and Ishawo axis collaborate with militants to kidnap innocent residents. Yesterday I told them to their faces that this might lead to de-robing, dethronement and prosecution if investigation revealed that any monarch is part of the criminality. It is a cankerworm that we will fight together, no one is free, what we need is vigilance and support for government”.

He added: “Any Baale, chief, or Oba found to be colluding with militants and other criminals to cause unrest in Lagos State will have their titles revoked, dethroned and prosecuted”.
