Update on the report for Warri South Constituency 1 election for the Delta State House of Assembly

The By-Election to fill the vacant seat of the Warri South Constituency 1 in the Delta State House of Assembly was held today across the six wards and various polling units that make up the constituency.

Our correspondents, Laju Awalu and Stanley Offeh, who were at Obodo Omadino Ward 1 to monitor the exercise, reports that in most of the polling units, officials of the Delta State Independent National Electoral Commission INEC arrived the units early alongside materials for the election.
At Obodo units one and two, Ubeji primary school Unit 14, 15 and Ifie-Kporo town hall units 16 and 17, it was observed that there was a large turnout of voters and the electorates were also seen exercising their franchise in a peaceful atmosphere.
The story was the same for unit 8, Ogua-Town Hall at Omadino; but at units 9, Arigho Town Hall Omadino, the story was quite different although the INEC officials and materials arrived early.
Our correspondents reports that at about 11:30am, voters were still coming in trickles to participate in the exercise. Some electorates who spoke in an interview commended the officials of INEC for their early arrival of materials, the heavy presence of security personnel’s and the manner those who participated in the process conducted themselves.
Although it was the electronic card reader machine that was used for the accreditation of voters before being allowed to cast their votes, it was however observed that in situations where the machines fail to read the permanent voters card PVC or capture the thumb prints of voters, they were manually accredited to vote with the voters register while the cases were incidental.

At Bowen ward 6, our news crew of Okiemute Obahor and Joan Igbava, reports that at the Omatsola primary school polling unit 1 &2 were INEC officials, adhoc staff and security personnel as well as party agents were seen on ground with poor turnout of voters.
Units 3, 4 and 5 of Alders town primary school had heavily mounted security men patrolling the area and youths were seen in their numbers. INEC officials were seated at their polling stands as accreditation later began and voting commenced almost immediately.  It however turned sour when a clash occurred with youths of different political factions, which saw voters and officials running for safety.
At Cavagina primary school, Odion road, polling units 6&7, materials did not arrive until past 10am, poor voter turn-out was recorded at about past noon, but the atmosphere was peaceful.
At rubber plantation units 8 and 9, just about 2-5 persons were on ground to vote, election materials and officials were however present, with party agents observed moving house to house to get electorates in the area out to vote.
Finally, Sport council at cemetery road and Council Dispensary at Odion road, which have polling units 10,11 and 12, smooth election process was recorded.
