Senate to intervene in education system

In the face of biting recession in the country, the Senate will, in the next few months, make interventions in the nation’s educational system by restructuring the sector through the provision of a legislative framework that will create more autonomy for Nigeria’s education system to make it more competitive locally and internationally.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, however said that any reform in the sector will no longer be business as usual.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Senate President said there is a need for comprehensive education reform across all levels to ensure that Nigerian students and schools are competitive globally.
According to him, reforming the country’s school systems, will involve a review of     basic education, which is currently the primary responsibility of the local governments.
