Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the police from searching any of his houses in Abuja or any other part of the country. Wike brought the application for a restraining injunction against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the State Security Services (SSS) and their agents from the search.
The governor claimed that he had earlier in a press conference alerted that the IGP and his officers intended to raid and search his Abuja residence situated at Ortega Close, off Hassan Usman Katsina Street, Asokoro Extension, Abuja.
His counsel, Sylva Ogewemoh (SAN), had asked Justice Ahmed Mohammed to determine whether under Section 308 of the Constitution, and Sections 149 and 150 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) Act, 2015, the defendants could apply and obtain process of court to compel his appearance being a serving governor.
