DELTA State governor, Dr Ifeanyi
Okowa, has said that access to good health facility was a basic necessity for
all Nigerians irrespective of class or status.
Declaring open the 41st Annual
General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the West African College of
Physicians, WACP, with the theme, Universal Access to Health, a Basic Necessity
for Attainment of the SDG’, in Asaba, Okowa described the theme as apt.
The governor who was represented by
the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Nicholas Azinge, said that promoting
healthy living was relevant to sustainable development.
In his welcome address, National
Chairman of WACP, Dr Abel Onunu, said that one of the traditions of the college
was the Annual General and Scientific meeting with a specific focus for each
year.
Onunu said that the programme had
proved to be an invaluable forum for the yearly review of activities of the
college and exchange of innovative concepts in health services and researches.
He commended Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and
acknowledged the state government’s giant stride particularly in the health
sector.
