Some States in the country have received another tranche of the Paris
Club refund by the Federal Government.
Some of the States that have confirmed receipt of the fund
include Ekiti, which got Nine Point Five Billion Naira in the first tranche and
Abia which got Eleven Point Four Billion Naira in the first tranche.
The Media Adviser to the Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State,
Lere Olayinka who confirmed the receipt of the second tranche revealed that the
state received Four Point Seven Hundred and Seventy Two Billion Naira, while
the Abia State’s Commisioner for Finance Obinna Oriaku confirmed that the state
got Five Point Seven Hundred and Fifteen Billion Naira in the second tranche.
While the total sum released to states by the Ministry of
Finance in the second tranche is yet to be confirmed, top officials of the
ministry said they were waiting for clearance from the Minister of Finance Mrs
Kemi Adeosun before giving out the information.
President Muhammadu Buhari initiated the refund to enable states
meet their financial obligations, especially to workers and pensioners.
It would be recalled that in the first tranche, a total of Five
Hundred and Sixteen Billion Naira was released to the Thirty Six states and the
Federal Capital Territory FCT.
The funds were released to
state governments as part of the wider efforts to stimulate the economy and
were specifically designed to support states in meeting salary and other
obligations to alleviate the challenges faced by workers.
