The big Swedish forward broke the deadlock in the 30th minute before the Black Cats' Sebastian Larsson was given his marching orders just before the break.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan made it 2-0 very early in the second half before Marcus Rashford put the game to bed with minutes to go.
Ibrahimovic's goal was his 250th since turning 30 - a sensational feat for a footballer at any level, let alone someone playing in England's highest tier.

Speaking about the achievement and how he is able to keep going at the age of 35, the former PSG forward said: "I train hard, I keep focusing.
"I believe in what I do, I believe in myself and I know what I am able to do and I'm not worried I just play my game and try to enjoy.
"It seems the older I get the more intelligent I get, of course I can't move the same as 10 years ago or 5 years ago.

"But the older [you get] the more experienced and intelligent [you get].
"You don't waste so much energy on things you don't need.
"My game is improving, I'm getting better and better, I feel like Benjamin Button, I was born old and I will die young."
