Former Federation Cup champions Akwa
United won for the first time on the road this season in the Nigeria
Professional Football League, NPFL, by defeating Kano Pillars 1-0 at the Sani
Abacha Stadium.
Christian Pyagbara combined with Alhassan Ibrahim to score for Akwa United after 19 minutes and that turned out to be the only goal of a keenly-contested match yesterday.
It was the first time that Akwa United would win in Kano after eight attempts.
The win ensures that Akwa United are now in fifth place and on 26 points, seven behind league leaders MFM FC.
MFM produced a blitz of a performance in the first half to overrun El-Kanemi
Warriors 3-0 in the top-of-the-table clash, having Austine Ogunye, Sikiru
Olatunbosun and Stephen Odey as scorers for MFM.
Fidelis Ilechukwu's men returned to winning ways
after their humiliating 0-4 loss at Nasarawa United last weekend.The Lagos club is now top of the pile with 33 points with Plateau United and El-Kanemi dropping to second and third positions respectively.
